Instructor Update
One thing an instructor has to do is stay up to date. This means with new training materials, presentation techniques and be current with any new equipment that arrives on scene, such as a new model bus or truck to drive.
How Does An Instructor Stay Up To Date With New Models
- When you first hear about a new model, do some internet research. All manufacturers now have web sites and usually post an enormous amount of material promoting their product. Inquire via email if there is anything available to educate drivers. Most companies are more than happy to help out.
- When a demo unit comes to your property, get to know the sales people. They are experts at getting material for you, and in the interest of promoting their product will usually go out of their way to comply. Drive the demo. Most sales people give you top priority in a chance to drive their latest unit. Who else best to convince a product is top quality than the training department.
- Visit your mechanic/repair division. They have to keep them running, and will know all the intimate details about every component a new arrival has. Ask both the on floor mechanics and the supervisors what the characteristics are, is there anything different, are there any special features, and you are sure to get a response. Don't forget to ask if they have any manuals or brochures they can share.
- When the new vehicle arrives, the factory representatives often visit your property many times. Get to know them. Set up an appointment to discuss the new unit. Ask the same questions about features, specifications and operation.
Remember to compile accurate notes of all of the above. Generate a special file that includes your notes and any data given to you by other departments and the factory people. Later you will be deciding what training is required, if handout brochures should be produced and more then likely receive numerous questions about the new product from fellow employees.
